Pulse Core

Pulse Core Version0.0.0

Pulse Core components

These components are required to build the Core mechanism.

  • 1 x Main PCB (processor, display)
  • 1 x Sensor PCB (air velocity sensor)
  • 1 x Motor PCB (motor driver, current sense IC, charge controller)
  • 3 x Charge springs
  • 3 x M3x30 hex-head fastening screws
  • 3 x M3x15 hex-head fastening screws
  • 1 x Printed hub gear
  • 3 x Printed spur gear
  • 1 x Printed push rod
  • 1 x Printed push rod end cap
  • 1 x Push rod hex-head reinforcement screw

Barrel cam mechanism

The Pulse Core uses a barrel cam mechanism to produce the required motion. Here is a 3D view of that mechanism which you can explore. This was generated using FreeCAD.

The core of the Pulse consists of a barrel cam mechanism which provides a powerful ~90N snapping force motion by storing charged energy in three heavily tensioned springs.

Snap Mechanism Snap Mechanism

Here are a few very incomplete concept builds for the core. The one with the zip tie holding it together is the only one which is partially functional, however it has a very early version of the barrel cam mechanism which has lots of unecessary friction in its design and tends to rip itself apart if the zip tie is not there.
